Ice Diving Course

The Academy will not provide personal or life support gear for this course! You must bring the appropriate BCD, Regulators, two tanks, APPROPRIATE THERMAL PROTECTION, and personal gear.

Ice diving is not the place to try new things! Proof of 25 dives is required.

Payment for the course will be collected on the morning of the dives; do not pay in advance! course cost $400

Ice Diving: Explore a Frozen World

Venture beneath the surface and experience the unique beauty of ice diving! This specialized course allows certified scuba divers to extend their diving season and explore the captivating underwater landscapes hidden beneath a frozen ceiling. While ice diving offers a serene and visually stunning experience, it also presents unique challenges. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to safely plan and execute ice dives, mitigating potential hazards through comprehensive training and preparation.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the specific hazards associated with ice-diving environments.

  • Master the techniques for planning and executing safe and successful ice dives.

  • Learn essential emergency procedures for ice diving situations.

  • Develop proficiency in utilizing specialized ice diving equipment.

Prerequisites:

  • Certification: SDI Open Water Scuba Diver (equivalent certification from a recognized agency).

  • Age: Minimum 18 years of age.

  • 25 dives, dive log must be presented!

Required Equipment:

  • Basic Scuba Gear: Standard open water scuba equipment as outlined in Section Three of the course manual.

  • Dry Suit: Highly recommended. Prior dry suit certification is required for divers who have not previously used a dry suit.

  • Cold-Water Regulator: A regulator specifically tested and rated for low-temperature use is essential.
