As we face global challenges, we may want to find local ways to make a difference in protecting endangered species, safeguarding water sources, and preventing marine debris. Science needs more eyes, ears, and perspectives than any scientist possess Enter citizen science
Volunteers: assist in some Academy projects. In all cases, the volunteers are carefully trained to ensure quality control. Academy supervisors check data collected by volunteers. Volunteers must abide by the rules, regulations, policies, and laws specified by Connecticut Scuba Academy's Scientific Research manual.
Volunteers DATA collectors must fill out an application and meet CTSA standards before collecting data under the auspices of the Academy.
Unless otherwise specifically addressed, all divers conducting dives with the Academy are required to be certified as a Scientific Diver through an Organizational Member of the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS) per 4.0 of the CTSA manual and have conducted at least 25 open water dives or possess equivalent training and operational experience as determined by the Academy Diving Safety Officer (DSO). Divers must abide by the policies outlined in the CTSA manual, including Diving Emergency Care Training, Diving Medical Clearance, and the Standardized Equipment Program.
The Academy offers a complete Scientific Diving Program.
Volunteers, Students, and others take on impactful roles that both further our cause and provide valuable leadership development by working for a non-profit business.
Whether it is via our formal internship program or other voluntary efforts, students and others contribute in many ways, including writing, public speaking, organizing outreach events and explorations, or producing our online videos and podcast.
